Made for demanding use
Steel pontoon docks and bridges
We manufacture special pontoon products, such as public authority and waterbus docks and pontoon bridges based on customer needs.
When a dock is required to have high durability, load-bearing capacity and stability, steel is an outstanding material for pontoons. Its solid flange joints create an extremely rigid and stable structure that withstands ice loads far better than plastic or concrete pontoon structures.
Why choose a steel pontoon product?
Steel pontoon products have a long lifecycle and with modern coatings can last for decades (35-50 years). Steel is a fully recyclable material, which means that when a dock is later demolished, there is no need to pay waste charges as with concrete pontoon docks, for example.
We also supply dock anchors and walkways. If necessary, we will also install the docks in place. Katera Steel has manufactured, for example, the docks for Helsinki’s waterbus traffic.
We design and implement
Floating pumping stations
We make floating pumping stations from start to finish and, if necessary, also take care of the installation. Combining insulated equipment facilities and a dock built of steel pontoons creates a highly functional floating pumping station. We tailor pontoons exactly to our customers’ needs, right down to the installation interface agreed on in advance.
In principle, a pontoon can be made as large needed but a pontoon with a base of 10 m x 4 m can reach a maximum pumping capacity of just over 2400 m3 of water/hour.

Made with years of experience
Guides for log floating
We are one of the leading manufacturers of guides for log floating and have decades of experience. The guides we make are based on a steel pontoon structure, so they are made to last. We manufacture our guides for log floating from high-strength spiral welded tube.
EXPERTISE AND SERVICE
Guides to help fish migrate upstream and downstream (fish passes)
We make floating structures to be built in conjunction with hydropower plants to guide the passage of fish, i.e. so-called smolt guidance structures. We manufacture the guides from a high-strength spiral welded tube so they can withstand difficult ice conditions in the challenging environment of a power plant.
